⟴ A big part of working at Lallybroch is making sure all equipment used by the library is set up correctly to ensure a safe environment for both the staff and the public. As you can see below, the table lists some of the hazards that can be found in this library and some steps to prevent injury or damage. Today I am going to talk about one of these hazards, the risks involved in not using proper handling procedures and some steps to ensure a safe environment.
I am going to talk about a hazard, which I think most people are aware of but sometimes choose to ignore. How many of us have been guilty of trying to plug too many power cords into the wall? Using too many power cords is in fact a very serious hazard - electricity is extremely dangerous. We don't need to be an electrician to know this!
The effects of trying to plug in to many devices can range from blowing fuses (which could cost you your power) to the damage of your equipment (not to mention the costs of replacing all damaged items) to the most severe consequence of death.
By following the steps below, you will minimize your risks and ensure a safe environment
- Unplug any devices that aren't being used
- Ensure all wiring is certified by a qualified electrician
- If using multiple devises, use a power board instead of a double-adaptor
- Unplug equipment when finished
⦽ We should always use extreme caution when dealing with anything electrical. Never attempt any electrical work yourself - always call an electrician.
